It’s not every day a Nigerian restaurant in the UK gets a call from one of Africa’s biggest stars — but for Samson Ayomide Alabi, owner of Mídé Lagos in Birmingham, it was a dream come true.
After years of running a ghost kitchen, Samson officially opened Mídé Lagos just last month. And within weeks, he was heading to London — car packed with steaming trays of jollof rice, fried rice, and goat meat — to cater for none other than Burna Boy, fresh off his sold-out concert at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. 🎤🔥

“It was an incredible experience,” Samson told BirminghamLive. “He had jollof rice, fried rice, and goat meat after his show. We’re a strictly Nigerian restaurant, but I even brought in contractors to handle Caribbean food requests. It means a lot that Burna Boy chose us — the food did the talking.”
Despite the abundance of Nigerian restaurants in London, Burna Boy chose to have his post-show feast delivered all the way from Birmingham — a huge vote of confidence for the up-and-coming eatery and its authentic flavours.
Samson, who previously worked as a music manager, described it as a “blessing” to be able to share a taste of home with one of Nigeria’s biggest global ambassadors.
“There’s loads of Nigerian restaurants in London, so for him to order from Birmingham — that’s special,” he said.

Mídé Lagos, based in Newtown, Birmingham, has quickly become a favourite among Nigerians in the UK craving real, home-style meals — from spicy jollof to smoky suya and rich ofada stew.
For many in the diaspora, Samson’s story is more than a business win — it’s a proud reminder that Nigerian culture and cuisine continue to make waves across the UK and beyond. 🌍🇳🇬
