Cyrenians – Transforming Lives Since 1968
Cyrenians is a charity dedicated to helping people achieve their goals by meeting them where they are. Our organisation was founded by a group of students who were disillusioned by the way homeless individuals were treated. We operate residential communities where volunteers live and work alongside young people who have experienced homelessness, helping them rebuild their lives.

About Our City and Farm Communities
Our communities provide a supportive space for young people (aged 18–30) who have faced homelessness. Volunteers play a crucial role in creating a positive environment where residents can develop independence and life skills.
We work closely with local councils and social services to ensure our residents receive the support they need. Each year, up to 15 young people live in our communities alongside a team of 6 volunteers.
What You’ll Be Doing as a Volunteer
Living and working alongside young people who have experienced homelessness, you will:
- Support residents in building confidence and independence
- Assist with daily activities like meal preparation and shopping
- Provide peer mentorship and emotional support
- Help maintain a safe, friendly, and engaging community
- Coordinate responsibilities with fellow volunteers
- Report resident progress and challenges to Cyrenians staff
This role requires patience and understanding, as some residents may struggle with mental health, trauma, learning disabilities, or behavioural challenges. Training and ongoing support will be provided to help you in your role.
