Many Nigerians in the UK are facing challenges due to job losses, which may lead to visa complications. If you or someone you know has lost their job and is at risk of losing their visa, this information could be a lifeline. The UK government has introduced a new support scheme through Regional Support Hubs to help affected care workers find new sponsors and regularise their stay.
Government Assistance for Displaced Care Workers
Seema Malhotra, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department, has advised care workers who have lost their jobs due to their sponsor’s licence being withdrawn to seek help from their regional support hub. The aim is to assist displaced workers in navigating the process of securing new sponsorship, avoiding visa cancellation, and preventing vulnerability.
The Department for Health and Social Care, in collaboration with the Home Office, has established a structured process to support displaced care workers in transitioning into new roles within the adult social care sector. The UK government is working with 15 regional hubs across England, which include local authorities and directors of adult social services, to provide direct assistance.
Key Government Initiatives:
✅ £16 Million Funding – To support regional partnerships in tackling unethical practices and ensuring international recruits understand their rights. ✅ Employer Switch Support – Helping affected workers transition to new sponsors within the care sector. ✅ Direct Communication – The Home Office will send customised letters to affected care professionals, providing contacts for regional support hubs and guidance on securing fresh sponsorship. ✅ Fast-Track Processing – The Home Office will waive priority service fees for applications endorsed by regional hubs, specifically for care workers.
