About the Role
This is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing all bakery operations including:
- Production
- Technical operations
- Food safety & hygiene
- Packing and logistics
You will lead department managers and shape the culture, systems, and performance standards of the bakery.
You will report directly to the Managing Director and work closely with the senior leadership team to drive operational excellence and long-term growth.
What the Role Involves
This is a hands-on leadership role, not a desk-only position. You will be visible across the site, understanding operations, supporting teams, and ensuring standards are maintained across all shifts.
You will be responsible for:
- Leading site operations and production performance
- Developing and mentoring department managers
- Driving continuous improvement across all processes
- Ensuring compliance with food safety and HACCP standards
- Improving efficiency, reducing waste, and increasing productivity
- Building a strong, accountable, and high-performing team culture
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Production
- Oversee all bakery operations including production, packing, hygiene, and logistics
- Maintain high product quality and food safety standards
- Improve efficiency, throughput, and delivery performance
- Ensure equipment and facility standards are maintained
Continuous Improvement
- Implement lean manufacturing principles
- Identify inefficiencies and improve production flow
- Promote a culture of innovation and improvement
- Use operational data to improve decision-making
People & Leadership
- Lead and develop department managers
- Build a strong team culture based on accountability and trust
- Be a visible and approachable on-site leader
- Promote diversity and inclusion within the workforce
Quality & Standards
- Protect product quality and brand standards
- Support responsible sourcing and sustainable production practices
- Maintain high compliance with regulatory and food safety requirements
Candidate Requirements
We are looking for someone with:
- Strong experience in bakery, food manufacturing, or large-scale production leadership
- Background in multi-department site operations
- Strong knowledge of HACCP and food safety regulations
- Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement systems
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Ability to balance quality, efficiency, and operational excellence
