Job Overview

The successful candidate will lead the delivery of high-quality nursing care, oversee care planning and support the development of staff and learners within the ward.

The Ward Manager will work with the Clinical Manager/Matron and other senior leaders while taking responsibility for the effective management and delivery of care.

Key Responsibilities

The Ward Manager will be expected to:

• Assess patients’ care needs and develop, implement and evaluate care programmes.
• Lead and monitor the delivery of high-quality mental health care.
• Work collaboratively with clinical and community teams.
• Support the training, education and development of students and other learners.
• Develop objectives for care delivery and monitor their implementation.
• Support the development of nursing practice across inpatient wards.
• Ensure compliance with relevant NHS policies, procedures and legislation.
• Investigate and report incidents, complaints and accidents appropriately.
• Lead infection-control activities within the ward.
• Support audits, research and continuous service improvement.
• Work with Human Resources on staff-related matters.
• Promote professional standards in line with the NMC Code.
