🚇 London Underground passengers, be aware: Hundreds of crimes are being reported on the Tube, and disturbing incidents of people being shoved onto the tracks are on the rise.
The London Underground has increasingly become a hotspot for criminal activity, with violent crimes becoming more frequent. Since Sadiq Khan was elected Mayor of London, there has been a notable surge in crime rates. In fact, 2023 was the worst year on record for these incidents. According to a Mail Online investigation, a staggering 22,562 crimes were reported on the Tube between January and December 2023 – a 66% increase from 2022.
Over the past 15 years, crime on the Tube has been steadily rising. While the crime rate dipped between 2009 and 2016, it began climbing again after Sadiq Khan took office. In 2016, the crime rate was at just 7.3%, but by 2023, it had spiked to 24.9%. Even more concerning is the fact that the first three months of 2024 have seen 6,319 crimes, with almost 70 crimes per day.
Social media is buzzing with alarming reports of anti-Semitic attacks, racist incidents, and sexual assaults on the Underground. Recently, a shocking incident occurred when a man was pushed to his death from an escalator at Waterloo Station. The investigation reveals several similar cases of violent incidents, raising concerns about safety on the Tube.
Stay vigilant while commuting, and if you see something, say something! The rise in crime is a worrying trend that Londoners need to take seriously.
