Navigating the UK’s energy market can feel like a maze, especially when juggling bills, quality service, and value for money. The latest Which? annual survey shines a spotlight on the best and worst-rated energy companies, so you can make an informed decision about where to get your power supply.
The Winners
At the top of the list are Octopus Energy, Utility Warehouse, and 100Green, celebrated for their excellent customer experience.
- Octopus Energy scored 74%, with nearly 90% of customers giving glowing reviews. It stood out for excellent customer support and transparency.
- Utility Warehouse followed closely at 73%, maintaining solid service and value.
- 100Green snagged a respectable 70% overall and received five stars for customer service, making it a reliable eco-friendly option.
The Losers
Unfortunately, not all providers delivered. British Gas, Scottish Power, and Ovo Energy languished at the bottom of the rankings.
- British Gas scored 61%, with complaints about poor customer service and value for money. Despite some investment in customer support, it seems they still have a long way to go.
- Ovo Energy, the third-largest energy provider, received the lowest score at 56%, criticised for weak communication and pricey tariffs.
- Scottish Power wasn’t far ahead, with a score of 59%, struggling with low customer satisfaction and subpar service.
So Energy, though faring slightly better, still underwhelmed in areas like smart meter installations and weekend support.
Why This Matters Now
Energy prices in the UK have been fluctuating, and fixed-rate deals are creeping back onto the market. With the price cap expected to rise by 3% in April, now is a good time to shop around for better deals and lock in a stable rate.
When comparing suppliers, it’s not just about the numbers—it’s about service. Nobody wants to deal with endless hold music or unresolved complaints when there’s an issue.
What Nigerians in the UK Should Consider
- Value for Money: Check rates carefully and balance price with service quality.
- Customer Service: Some companies make it a nightmare to get help; aim for providers with higher satisfaction scores.
- Eco Options: Companies like 100Green offer greener energy solutions if sustainability is a priority.
Switching Made Easy
Switching suppliers isn’t as complicated as it sounds. With a little research, you can find a provider that suits your budget and needs. Websites like Which? and Ofgem’s accredited comparison tools can guide you.
As Emily Seymour, Which? Energy Editor, puts it:
“Some energy firms are powering ahead, while others are letting customers down. If you’re unhappy with your provider, shop around and switch to someone better.”
Don’t settle for bad service—your energy supplier should work for you, not the other way around.
What’s Next?
Take action now! Review your energy bills, compare options, and consider switching to a top-rated supplier. Staying informed and proactive is the best way to save money and avoid unnecessary stress.
