Former Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has given the club some valuable advice regarding their transfer strategy. As the January transfer window approaches, Wright-Phillips has urged Chelsea to prioritize strengthening their defense rather than pursuing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.
While Osimhen has been a hot topic for top clubs across Europe, including Chelsea, Wright-Phillips believes that the Blues should address their defensive weaknesses first. With the departure of Thiago Silva and the ongoing defensive lapses, Chelsea’s focus should be on signing experienced defenders.
In an interview with Sportscasting, Wright-Phillips shared his thoughts: “I think Victor Osimhen would be a top player in the Premier League, but I wouldn’t necessarily say that the striker position is where Chelsea should be prioritizing in the next few transfer windows.”
Although Chelsea have been linked with Osimhen before, Wright-Phillips believes the current squad doesn’t lack attacking options. “They are not struggling to score goals. That is not a problem for them right now,” he added.

Chelsea have scored an impressive 37 goals in 17 Premier League matches this season. However, their defense has been a cause for concern, with defensive lapses costing them valuable points.
Wright-Phillips continued, “The problem is they are conceding goals. If they can cut some of those mistakes, then again, we see a different Chelsea.”
As the club prepares for a busy transfer window, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will take the advice of their former player and focus on defensive reinforcements. In the meantime, fans will be eagerly awaiting the club’s next move.
